Update August 2017: Iberia has also restarted its direct flight between Tangier and Malaga, but ticket prices are often more expensive than Air Arabia Maroc.

Great news! It’s always been a bit difficult for Malagueños to reach us here in Tangier because of the poor transport links between Málaga and Tarifa and the often-delayed ferries between Tarifa and Tangier, but now there is a better option. Air Arabia Maroc has started its direct service between Málaga and Tangier.

The flights began on the 4th December and operate three times a week, with a flight duration of approximately 45 minutes. It’s much quicker than the previously, when travelling between Málaga and Tangier involved a 2 hour bus journey and then a ferry.  At an average fare of 30 euros, it’s also significantly cheaper than before since prices for the ferry are in the region of 40 euros one-way and the only other air link between Málaga and Tangier involves a stop in Casablanca, and a significantly higher price tag (300 euros on average).

The cheapest available fare within the next week is just 399MAD, or about 37 euros, which means that it is possible to book at the last-minute and still get a good deal. If we look further in advance in January, it’s possible to fly for 299MAD, or about 27 euros, which is an excellent deal.

It’s important to remember that the cheapest fare ( the promo fare as indicated in the picture above) does not include checked baggage. So, if you want to check in a bag, you will have to pay a fee. The maximum weight permitted is 20kg, with an additional charge of 10 euros per kilo overweight. If you are travelling with just hand luggage, then there are no additional fees to pay.

The flexi fare permits you to modify the time of your flight with no additional charge. It is not clear on their website, but for most airlines, you will normally have to pay for any difference in fare.
